Honoring the legacy of a heroic pastor
Brothers and Sisters,
Father Jim Lee meant the world to Amazing Parish.
His witness inspired us, both in his suffering and in his remarkable leadership. Even as his body failed, his energies went entirely toward loving his people. He led change with an indomitable spirit, never allowing physical limitation to be a hindrance.
Throughout his seven-year relationship with Amazing Parish, Father Jim often said, “I just wish I had this when I was a younger priest.” His humility and gratitude moved us deeply.
In his honor, we established the Fr. Jim Lee Scholarship Fund to ensure that future “Father Jims”—pastors with the potential for great holiness and leadership—can access coaching regardless of parish finances. Pastors don’t choose their assignments, and many who need support most simply cannot afford it.
We invite you to stand in the breach with them. Again and again, pastors tell us that Amazing Parish didn’t just help their parish, it saved their priesthood. Every dollar you give goes directly to providing this support.

The Impact of your Gift
When I became a pastor a few years ago, I started to feel the weight of leadership in a whole new way. The demands were increasing more and more, and I could see that both the organizational health and the spiritual health of my parish needed renewal. I loved my people, but I wasn’t sure the best way to help them become true disciples and missionaries.
That’s where Amazing Parish came in. From the very beginning, they gave me practical tools and coaching that helped me get a grip on how to build up both the people and the structure of the Church. Honestly, I received what feels like fifty years’ worth of pastoral experience in just two or three years with Amazing Parish.
I feel like I get stuck a lot and my Amazing Parish coach has pulled me out of a pinch more times than I can count. Having that outside, objective perspective—and a safe place to talk about the hidden burdens of priesthood—has been such a grace. My leadership team, too, has become a source of real strength and encouragement. They remind me every week that I’m not alone and that with prayer and support, God can do great things.
Because of this formation, my parish is alive again—people are coming back to Mass, ministries are growing, and the spirit of discipleship & evangelization is flourishing.

Get to Know Fr. Jim
Father Jim Lee served as a shining example of faithful, humble, and courageous priestly leadership. Born in Chicago in 1948, Fr. Jim answered God’s call early and was ordained in 1975 as a Maryknoll missionary. Over decades of ministry, he served people in Tanzania and later incardinated into the Archdiocese of Seattle – eventually becoming pastor of St. Michael Parish in Olympia for more than 27 years.
Despite a diagnosis of ALS in 2017, Fr. Jim never wavered in his pastoral heart. He continued hearing confessions, mentoring younger priests, building up his community, and leading with grace and gratitude. His constant refrain — “I am blessed” — became a lesson in faith and surrender, reminding everyone that suffering, when embraced with humility, can become a powerful witness of Christ’s love.
At Amazing Parish, Fr. Jim embodies our core vision — a shepherd who builds a healthy, mission-driven, and spiritually vibrant parish no matter the obstacles. His legacy continues to inspire pastors and parishioners alike to live out God’s call with joy, resilience, and deep communion.
